My Daughter's Turning One!

So my daughter will be turning one year old in just a few short weeks. I have to admit, I don't have a clue what to get her! On the one hand she should get items that are fun like toys and such. On the other hand there are quite a few items that I could really use to make her and my life easier, especially as she starts crawling and walking. Below are a few items I think I'm going to ask my family to get Lily for her birthday. What do you think? Should I ask for things like this or just let them overwhelm her with even more toys? LOL

The Jeep starter stroller kit that has all the essentials for when I start taking Lily with me for walks around the neighborhood as the weather gets warmer.

A shopping cart cover that will protect her from who knows what germs lingering on both shopping carts and restaurant high chairs.

A video monitor system so I can keep my eye on her even better if I'm cooking dinner or doing something else that may make it difficult to come running to her side if it just turns out she's tossing and turning in her sleep.

So what do you think? Would you buy any of these if your sister/daughter/friend asked for this instead of clothes or toys for her daughter's birthday?

Out with the Old, In with the New

As 2012 draws to a close, I can't help but feel excited for what 2013 will bring.  For me, 2012 has been a huge stressful drain, but 2013 is looking quite a bit more promising like seeing a beautiful rainbow after a terrible storm.

My Daughter

For starters, my daughter, who was born 9 weeks early in February of 2012 will be turning 1 year old in just a few short weeks!  2012 was especially hard, obviously having her so early, but also having her stay in the hospital for 48 days after she was born, then having hernia surgery in May followed by heart repair in October.  But now, as 2013 is on the horizon, there is nothing but blue skies ahead!  She has recovered miraculously through each of her medical endeavors of 2012 and is continuing to amaze and astound me each and every day.  Born at just 3 pounds, 3 ounces my baby girl is now a whopping 19 pounds!  She's a beautiful, happy and smart little girl who loves to smile and laugh all day long.  2013 will be an awesome year for her as she learns to crawl, walk, and talk!

My Self

This year, granted at the very end, I decided to join Weight Watchers on December 11.  I know my daughter will be crawling soon, and it will only be a matter of months before she's running around the house, begging to be chased by the tickle monster!  I want to be able to keep up with her, chase her, play with her, get down on the ground and teach her.  I can't do that right now.  I started December 11 at 314.6 pounds.  Though I am on the taller side of average at 5'7", 314.6 is too heavy, even for the tallest of women.  Over the past few weeks I've watched the pounds start to fade away, and now, as 2013 dawns a new day, I can proudly hold my head up high and proclaim that I have lost 7.8 pounds so far!  In the past, my New Year's Resolution was always "to lose weight".  Now, not only will my 2013 New Year's Resolution change to continue to lose weight, it will be more concrete than that.  I am setting up goals to help me accomplish that resolution.  More details on that in posts to come!

Happy New Year!

I'm Not In Kansas Anymore

Well, I've never even been to Kansas, but I have moved!  It was a sudden, almost overnight decision, so my life has been a bit chaotic lately to say the least.  Basically, this past Wednesday I was thinking I'd be in my house for many more years, and today I'm now living in my parents' basement.

The good news: this was my choice.  My house is still there, and I plan to rent it out at least until the market turns back around in that area so I can sell it for around what I paid for it.  Not to get into too many of the gory details, but my husband made a choice that I will not condone, so he has moved to another state.  I've decided the best place for me and my daughter is to be back at my parents' until things settle down and Lily gets a bit older.

More good news: I can start fresh!  With such a sudden move, and going from a 1400sqft house to a small (maybe 600sqft?) basement, it was easy to dump the junk and only take what I really need.  Of course, I'll be going back the next few weekends to get the things I forgot and tie up all the loose ends.  However, I'm now left with boxes and bags and crates and such full of miscellaneous items with no home yet.  And the basement wasn't exactly empty when I got here either.  There's an elliptical in pieces on the floor, bookcases, filing cabinets and junk in drawers that's hindering my ability to really make this place home...yet.

I'll leave you with this: The floorplan/furniture placement I'm currently dreaming about having (once the folks get their junk out of the way).  The bedroom door actually opens the other direction, but since I wasn't including the bedroom in this drawing, I drew the door opening out so I could see at least where the opening was.  Each little square is 9" (half the size of one of the tiles down here).

Creating a Command Center: The Final Product

So I've talked about all the different pieces that make up my command center, so now here's the final product, up on the wall in a central location.

I've added a magnetic dry erase board and a motivational quote to the command center as well, just to mix things up a bit.

Looks like I can take that "Complete Command Center" sticky down from my Goal List for this week!

Creating a Command Center: The Goal List

An item I think will help in my desire to stay on task is this Goal List.  Using the same watercolor paper as the Family Contribution lists, I placed five separate sticky notes on the paper then drew a design around each one.  The thing I like most about this design is that I can customize it to anything, from today to this week to this year.  However, I did find another goal list up on Pinterest that I actually like better, as it has a space to do all your goals on one sheet, with columns for today, this week, this month, even as far out as "someday".

My Goal List for this week
My Goal List for this week
As you can see, I have quite a large list of stuff I need to do.  Now, I'm sure one of you is thinking to yourself: "Compile al clutter to central location?  Doesn't she know it's easier to just tackle one room at a time??"  Well, yes and no.  You see, my house is so cluttered, with so little organization, that until I pull everything out into one central location, I can't really put anything away in an organized manner.

See, my plan is once everything (and I do mean literally everything other than furniture and obvious items that belong in the space they're in) is in the living room (best place with space to spare) I can thoroughly clean the other rooms, figure out how best to organize what's left in the room, and have a good sense of what can go back into the room vs. be donated/trashed/etc.

There is a method to my madness...I think...
